Southeastern Writers Association (SWA) Core Values

SWA is a not-for-profit association of authors, poets, columnists, and all others who are or aspire to be writers. Our members vary widely in age, experience, and success, from published authors, to novices taking their first steps into the world of writing.

Although our homes are scattered across the Southeast, we are a community of common interests and ideals. And whether we have met face-to-face, we are a family in every meaningful sense of the word.

Our core values can be summed up in four words:

  • Teach

  • Share

  • Encourage

  • Family

Teach

SWA sponsors an annual writers’ workshop at Epworth by the Sea on St. Simon's Island in an intimate and comfortable atmosphere.

SWA strives to provide quality instruction in various genres and markets at our annual writers’ workshop.

Share

SWA is an inclusive community of writers: both those members who attend our annual conference and those who are unable to attend.

SWA promotes networking and connectional opportunities both at our annual writers’ workshop and year round with each other and with our invited faculty.

Encourage

SWA encourages its members to help one another become better writers and  build their writing platforms in order to be successful.

SWA encourages the participation of all types of writers no matter their age, gender, background, or preferred genre.

Family

SWA celebrates the successes of any member of its family of writers. SWA keeps our family of writers updated with important and engaging information via newsletter, website and social media.

SWA has been helping writers since 1975.
